Today (2-2-16) marked the return of NJ Youth Corps/Working Scholars Program to non-profit organization Let's Celebrate, which doubles as both a soup kitchen and food pantry in Jersey City, NJ. Our student/staff young adults assisted unloading the pantry stock, bringing pounds of food and drinks up to the holding area and then stocking the shelves with various items. Then they transitioned into servers and cleaners for lunch time, feeding the clients who came to eat. Our staff felt particularly humbled with their efforts and the people that they helped.
"I don't see how anybody could complain about helping somebody - that's the worse thing they can do. We are all in the struggle. If we didn't have anything to eat, we would be the same way. Sometimes people are out here looking for a hand out - only because they can't support themselves. Times like this just make you value what you do have." - Mike
"When you don't know where your next meal is coming from, that is what hurts you the most. A little bit of time out of your time won't hurt, especially when you are trying to help somebody." - Tywayne
